Practice Philosophy
We believe that we are here to help you in rearing your children. We will provide guidance and advice but will also respect your feelings and your opinions. This is a developmentally-based practice. We will advise and inform you about what to expect at each age. In that way we hope to be able to prevent problems.
Office Hours
Office
Hours: 8:30am-4:30pm M,T,TH,F. 8:30am-11:30am WED. Closed Daily from
12:00pm-1:00pm for lunch
Appointments
We schedule only a limited number of well child visits a day, to be sure that we will always be able to see sick children promptly. Trying to avoid long waits in reception room, we stick to an appointment schedule and do not see "walk-ins". Please try to call early in the day for sick visits. Another good suggestion is to schedule your next well child visit when checking out after the current visit.
After Hours Calls
Weekdays
either Dr. Eglen or one of her call partners are available for
urgently ill or injured patient emergencies
and can be reached by calling 216-0201. Weekends as a courtesy to
our urgently ill or injured patients, Dr. Eglen
or on of her call partners will take emergency calls from 8am-12pm on most Saturdays
and Sundays. For most other emergencies
MUSC pediatric ER is available for advice or medical attention if
the need arises. MUSC can be reached at 792-
1414.
Referrals
If your insurance plan or HMO requires a referral from this office to see another physician, specialist, or to receive a form of therapy, be sure to get the referral before your visit to that office. It takes us time to prepare referrals and most insurance plans are no longer accepting referrals made after a visit.
Charges
Unless previous arrangements have been made, payment is due at the time of service. If your insurance requires a co-payment, it is due at the time of service. The insurance companies require that a co-payment be made at every office visit, with a few exceptions for some plans. We do accept Visa and Mastercard. If you have any questions about charges or insurances, please talk to Beth, our Office Manager.
Our Staff

Emergency Room Visits
If your child has an emergency that threatens life or limb, go directly to a hospital. If you can possibly call us first, we can notify the hospital of the emergency, and facilitate your child's visit. If Dr. Eglen or one of the covering physicians tell you to go to the emergency room, please call the office the next business day so that we can follow up on the ER treatment. (This call is especially important if your insurance requires a referral to cover the ER visit.)
Well Child Visits
We schedule well-child visits to co-ordinate with the immunization schedule at two weeks, 1, 2, 4, 6, 9. 12, 15, 18 months, 2 years and annually after that. To be certain that we are able to care for sick children on the day they call, and to prevent over booking, we limit the number of well child visits in any day. Therefore it is best to plan ahead and book your child's well visits ahead of time. Making your appointment for your next visit as you are leaving is a good idea.
Hospitalization
When hospitalization is necessary we admit to
MUSC which has an excellent nursery and pediatric ward. We see newborns at
East Cooper Regional Medical Center,
and
MUSC.
Prescription Refills
Some medications, for chronic problems, can be refilled. If you need a refill, please call the office during regular office hours. Please have the name and phone number of the pharmacy and the prescription number available when you call.
Prescriptions cannot be refilled if the child has not been seen in the office within the past year. Some prescriptions cannot be refilled without a visit and we will advise you if this is the case.
